Why is 2breathe better than breathing slowly on my own?
The simple answer is the 2breathe does the “work” for you and does it more effectively. The key to reducing your elevated sympathetic activity is slowing down your breathing by prolonging your exhalation. This is not simple to do on your own and might require years of training. Interestingly, unaided breathing exercises require counting or other cognitive control, which by its nature elevates sympathetic activity and that is counter productive to trying to sleep..
